Wendy Paton Studio

An award winning fine art photographer, Wendy Paton was in the throes of a successful ground breaking career training and driving Standardbred race horses in New York, when in 1981 her interest in . . . photography emerged.
Wendy studied photography at the International Center of Photography in New York City, learned the intricacies of night photography from Michael Kenna, and darkroom printing techniques from her mentor and collaborator, master printer Chuck Kelton.
Paton’s series of black and white candid night images, Visages de Nuit was first exhibited in 2009 in Clues To Identity, at the International Center of Photography, Rita K. Hillman Gallery. Her first solo exhibition in New York followed in March of 2010 at Sous Les Etoiles Gallery. The artist’s European debut of her Visages de Nuit images opened in January 2011 in the exhibition, American Portraits at In Focus Galerie, Cologne, Germany. A retrospective of the Visages de Nuit series in its entirety (2006 – 2012) opened September 2012 at The Lumiere Brothers Center for Photography, Moscow, Russia. Paton’s American solo museum debut, WENDY PATON | NUIT BLANCHE, opened August, 2014 at the James A. Michener Art Museum in Doylestown, Pennsylvania. The exhibit includes major selections from the artist’s series Visages de Nuit and Reclaiming Dignity.
Karen Sinsheimer, Curator of Photography, Santa Barbara Museum of Art observes “What photographer Paton has so beautifully conveyed visually is what Henry Wadsworth Longfellow expressed peoetically about humankind: We are ships that pass in the night…Only a look and a voice, then darkness again and a silence.”
Paton’s work has been exhibited in gallery and museum venues internationally and is in notable private and museum collections in the US and Europe. Her emphasis is shooting with black and white film and producing her work as silver gelatin prints, completed in her studio darkroom in New Jersey.
