The light dusting of snow on the ground on Sunday, Jan. 13 added to the scenic beauty of Bucks County; a county where, since Revolutionary days, residents have fought hard for freedom and equality. That morning, about 200 people came out to the opening of New Hope Celebrates History Exhibit at the Bucks County Visitor’s Center in Bensalem, PA to celebrate that freedom and equality.
The Raven Resort in New Hope, PA created a lavish buffet brunch and Starbucks supplied the coffee.
Gordon Pulaski, New Hope Celebrates Creative Director, has designed and created an exhibit paying homage to individuals in the LGBTQA community in New Hope, Bucks County and throughout the nation. All displays were painstakingly made by hand. Gordon Pulaski said it was a labor of love, which was seen and felt by all those who attended.
This year marks the 50th Anniversary of the Stonewall Riots in New York City and a decoupage collage of the number 50 with black and white photos stands tall at the entrance. New Hope Celebrates very own 100 ft. Pride flag is draped atop the room, proudly displaying its colors.
The exhibit features a timeline of gay history in the United States throughout the decades showing the continuing fight for equal rights. There are colorful remembrances of local changemakers, divas and hangouts that made New Hope and Bucks County strong leaders in the LGBTQA community. Photos, stories and memorabilia flood the room. There will be 6 more panels installed by PA LGBT History Network on Feb 1st .
New Hope Celebrates Founder, Dan Brooks said, “New Hope has a long history of being a diverse and very welcoming community.” In an effort to preserve the gay history of New Hope, New Hope Celebrates History was founded. This exhibit showcases their continuing dedication.
