On April 22nd, we celebrate Earth Day- a day of events celebrated across 193 countries to demonstrate support for environmental protection. The first Earth Day was celebrated in 1970, and this year’s event will help celebrate the landmark Paris Agreement, a historic climate protection treaty adopted by consensus of the 195 nations present at the 2015 United Nations Climate Change Conference in Paris.
But you don’t have to travel to Paris to make a difference. Each year, Earth Day highlights the power that each and every one of us has to protect our environment. And that spirit is alive and well here in the Delaware River Towns. Here are some ways that you can honor Earth Day locally:

Watch a beautiful celebration of our planet and our humanity on the big screen! Seven years in the making, UNITY is a new documentary that explores humanity’s hopeful transformation from living by killing into living by loving. It is a unique film about compassion for all beings, or all “expressions of life,” and going beyond all “separation based on form,” and beyond perceiving opposites. Writer/Director Shaun Monson, collaborating with an astounding cast of 100 celebrity narrators (never before gathered in the history of film-making), presents a message of love, tragedy and hope, all set against the backdrop of some of the most compelling 20th and 21st Century footage imaginable. With a cast of 100 voices all speaking as one voice, UNITY is a genuine cinematic experience unlike any other.

postcard_500It’s fitting to have the expressive and detailed paintings by renowned artists, Beatrice Bork and Michael Schweigart, featured in an exhibit celebrating nature “Wild in Detail” at Artists’ Gallery in Lambertville, NJ this April.
Beatrice and Michael have built their professional (collectively over 50 year) careers with their thoughtful interpretations of the passions that inspire them. While both artists are similar in their contemplative and highly personal approach, they do, however, focus on different subjects that nature offers. Beatrice enjoys immersing herself in the thought and planning that is required with watercolor, but also relishes in its poetic qualities. As a professional artist, she has amassed numerous honors including recognition by the prestigious Society of Animal Artists and Artists for Conservation with signature status as well as the Eckelberry Award, specifically for bird art. Her paintings have been exhibited in various international exhibits and publications throughout the US and Canada, and are collected throughout the world. To learn more about Beatrice, go to www.beatricebork.artspan.com.
Michael continues to be inspired by the natural landscape and has broadened his scope with paintings of urban street scenes as well as the human figure.  He has been exhibiting his paintings for 3 decades in galleries and museums throughout New Jersey, Philadelphia, and New York City. His paintings have won numerous awards and are included in many public and private collections. To learn more about Michael, visit www.michaelschweigart.com.
